Strange icon that cannot be deleted

In my delete box I have acquired several e-mails that have a red square with a cross through, aligned under the 'Message Status' column. The rest of the text is crossed through. I cannot delete from Entourage, and attempting to open any of them crashes Entourage. Any idea how to get rid of them?

Control click on the folder. Select an option that would synchronize or
refresh the message list. Not sure what it was called in Entourage X.

Do you see Folder Properties? Try to empty cache there.

It sounds like what I see when I delete something from an IMAP email
account. I think that I have that account set to keep deleted items
for 30 days.
