Style Set crashes Word 2007

When I click on the Change Styles button, there are three menus to choose from:

- Style Set
- Colors
- Fonts

The last two menus open and let me select the items within them, but when I
point to the Style Set menu, Word crashes before showing the menu. This
happens all the time. I have tried Office Diagnostics but no problems are
found. I have even tried repairing Office and uninstalling and reinstalling
the Word 2007 component but it always crashes when I point to the Style Set
menu.

Any ideas on this? Does anyone know where the style sets are stored by
default? I am on Vista.

The default Quick Style sets (actually template files) are stored in Vista at
the following location:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\1033\QuickStyles\*.dotx

Any customized or new custom Quick Style sets are stored at the following
location:
C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Roaming\ Microsoft\QuickStyles\*.dotx (if
modified and saved with same name as built-in Quick Style set, will also be
saved here)

It's more likely, given that you have already repaired Word, it is unlikely
that the problem lies with the default .dotx Quick Style set files in the
Program folder.

It is much more likely that one or more of the customized or new custom
..dotx Quick Style set files iin the Appdata\Roaming\Microsoft\QuickStyles
folder is corrupt.

Personally, I would back up the customized and new custom files before I
deleted them; if the menu command then worked, I'd add them back one by one.

Thank you for your help, it has fixed the problem!

I went to the user location but couldn't find the QuickStyles folder in
Roaming\Microsoft. So I created it myslef and tried the menu in Word and it
opened without crashing. Thanks again!

Also, while I was in C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\, I
noticed that if you move the Document Building Blocks folder on to your
desktop and then lauch Word 2007, it launches immedietely without and splash
screen or other delay. What is Document Building Blocks for? I've moved it
back in now though, just to be safe.

Thank you, it has fixed it! I went to Roaming\Microsoft but QuickStyles
wasn't there, so I created it myself and tried the menu and it opens without
crashing now! Thanks again.

Also, while I was in Roaming\Microsoft, I noticed that if you move the
Document Building Blocks folder onto your desktop, Word 2007 launches very
quickly and with no splash screen. What it Document Building Blocks important
for? I've moved it back in now though.

Glad I could help but it's a mystery as to how the folder was deleted in the
first place!

The...Document Building Blocks\1033 folder stores Building Blocks.dotx for
US English. It is technically a template file; it initially stores built-in
blocks of preformatted text (cover pages, tables, tables of contents,
AutoText entries, etc.). The file in this folder is initially a copy of a
file with the same name saved in ...Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office12\Document Parts\1033\ in Vista & XP. When you create new
building blocks they are by default saved in this file.

You can insert, modify, create, etc. building blocks from the Insert tab, in
the Text group, by clicking Quick Parts and then clicking Building Blocks
Organizer; specific types of building blocks are available in other tabs
(such as for Quick Tables, Tables of Contents, Text Boxes).

They are extraordinarily useful; you can also store them in the Normal
template or in any other attached template or even in any template if you
open the template and create the building block within it and like Quick
Style sets are made possible by the new XML file structure.
