Symbol font is garbled when opened in Powerpoint 2008

Hello,

I have a number of presentations I made with Powerpoint 2004 using the symbol font. When I open them in Powerpoint 2008 they are all replaced by the same strange symbol.

Is there a way to automatically convert these into the symbols observed in Powerpoint 2004?

I had this exact problem and fixed it using information gleaned from similar discussions on this noticeboard.

To fix my problem I used the application fontbook (in applications folder) and found that there were three versions of symbol font listed when I clicked the arrow next to the symbol font in the list.

I then used the application to remove all but one 'regular' version of this font and the problem was solved.
