I have a document from a windows user which I have been using for years. It allows me to fill in text in various places. It has never been a problem. I can place the cursor in the spot, but when I try to type I get the above error? Any ideas

Yeah, it's a bug in Word 2008.

The document has one or more protected sections in it, done in Windows.

Word 2008 can't interpret the protection because it does not have Windows
encryption, so it won't let you type "anywhere" in the document.

There is a Service Release for Office 2008 due next week. We can only hope
that that resolves this bug.

Cheers
