Trying everything to upgrade

T

The dumb guy

I think I've spent a lot of money for nothing.

My nice fast Dell, (running Vista) has Office 2000 on it. When I bought
my Dell, I transfered my entire hard drive contents from my old computer
using a transfer software product.

I purchased the 2007 upgrade program, and when I tried to install it,
it says it can't find an upgradeable product.

Thinking the problem was in the transfered program, I bought a 2 disk
copy of 2000 on E-bay (my first e-bay purchase). After installing that,
I tried to upgrade again. No change..

So, I went back on E-bay and purchased what I was told was a fully
licensed version of 2007. Then I found out what I bought was another
2007 upgrade and a copy of Word 2000, which I understand was supposed to
be an upgradeable product.

STILL DOESN'T WORK!!!

I spoke with a computer guy who told me to download the "test drive"
version of 2007 from Microsoft then install my update over that. Didn't
sound quite right, but at this point I'll try anything.

The download says something about a file size changing when trying to
download the "disk 1"

Am I just another old man that's been taken by the teckie world, or am
I just doing something incorrect.

Thank you

More info.

The first upgrade I bought ended with a -01 product code. (Purchased at
Office Max store)

The upgrade that was sent with the Word disk (from e-bay) ended with
-04. Both upgrades were the fancy looking disks in sealed boxes.

The "new" copy of office 2000 I purchased came in two white envelopes,
and the Word 2000 disk was just in an envelope too.

I would suggest posting in an Office newsgroup...this is not an office
security update issue.

Thanks any way. Since the string was .. *TechArena Community >
Technical Support > Computer Help > Office Help > Office Update Service
*

I just assumed that since I needed HELP with an OFFICE UPDATE, that
this would be where to post.

I was able to resolve my problem using this

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928218

Maybe it will help others.

Office update is not the same as office upgrade. TechArena...ah, that
explains it. You didn't come directly to a MS newsgroup.
