Trying to do some Business Cards using MS Publisher

Hello,

I have created a couple of flyers using Photoshop Elements 5. What I am
trying to do now is to actually design a business card to look the same as
the flyers. I am totally new to MS Publisher. I know almost zip about using
the application and making business cards to boot.

What I have tried to do so far is use Publisher's Blank Publications and
then blank Business card template. I then already saved one of my flyers as
a .png file format and resized it to a business card width and height of 3.5
x 2.

With my blank business card template in Publisher open, I went to
Backgrounds and then chose more... to select from a file. I chose my flyer
and inserted it as a background into the business card template.

It looks fine on screen, but when I do a print preview and/or a print to the
printer, it seems larger than a normal 3.5 x 2 card, and it seems to bleed on
the edges. The edges look to have the top and bottom portions of the flyer
starting to repeat themselves around the edges of the card.

As I mentioned, the card on screen looks fine, but when I print them or do a
print preview, the card is actually larger than a 3.5 x 2 normal business
card. Why is this and what is happening? And a better question is, how can
I remedy this? If I can at all.

Thanks

Anytime you format a background from the Format menu it will tile. What you are
seeing is the tiling. Go to the master page (ctrl+m), insert the .png image.

Thanks Mary! Nice to hear from you again. I'll try this one out. I may
have more questions since I'm so new to Publisher. I just purchased a few
books from Amazon to help me out as well.

I just tried this in Publisher and it looks great. Now I should be able to
just save it and take it down to Staples and have a few printed to see how
they look.

Thanks again!

This template should work with Publisher 2000 and above. It is properly
set up for printing business cards on 8.5 x 11 sheets. No print shop
should have any excuse for cutting these incorrectly.

Hi Guyz,

It looks like I have a problem here. After I applied my 2 by 3.5 business
card graphic to the blank business card template in Publisher by applying it
to the Master page, it looked great online and when I printed it at home it
looked good too. But I don't have a color printer and so went to Staples to
have them print it out and to cut them.

When they got done, the graphic is not filling the whole card?? There was a
little bit of white space on there after they cut them on some of the bottoms
and on one of the sides. I had them only print ten for me, and they wouldn't
print less. I still got charged $16 though. And they weren't willing to
give me too much advise as to what went wrong. I got the impression that
they didn't like the fact they I didn't have them create one of their
business card designs for me from start to finish. I felt their reluctancy
to print what I had already created out for me.

But what I have heard so far is that, I should save my graphic that I
created in Photoshop elements as a PDF file rather than a PNG. Also, I
should make the graphic in Photoshop elements and the blank template within
publisher about 1/8" to 1/4" larger all the way around. Will this do the
trick? And if not, any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again,

LJV
