unable to change default bulleted text boxes

Really frustrated. I have removed bullets from the text box default and saved
it as the default as per suggestion in other strings here. When I change the
theme for the presentation, the default text box along with all my footer
placeholders (date, page number and footer text) change to bulleted text
boxes not only in the presentation, but on the Master slides! Can anyone
help?
