Unable to see attachments in email messages

I have Outlook 2007. I have email messages stored in my personal folder.
When I look at the message, I see the paper clip icon indicating there is an
attachment, however when I click on the email, the attachment doesn't display
in the email as it usually does. There are several of these messages like
this. The attachment is not blocked. I'm sure I was able to view these
before because I had to setup some accounts from an excel spreadsheet that
was attached to one of these messages. Any suggestions?

Which format are these messages in?
For Rich Text messages the attachments will show up in the message body and
not directly under the header or the message.

Some virus scanners can also cause you message to show a paperclip for
embedded pictures (even when they are in the signature).

The messages are all in HTML format. The attachment is normally under the
header. I see that some of the paper clips are actually for embedded
pictures in the signature. There is one in particular that should be an
excel spreadsheet. Let me dig a little deeper........
