Unsupported install paths

Jon Erlendsson

I have just made a network install point according to guides found in Help
and How-to, created a .msp file and placed that in the updates folder, but
when i run setup from any client i get the message :

"Network, CDROM, and RAM drives are not supported install paths. Choose a
folder located on a fixed disk or removable drive"

What is the use of making network install point if Network is not supported
install path? Or what is happening?

Hi Jon,

What is the command line you're using to run setup and what type of client?

You won't be able to install *to* any location that is considered 'removable'. That would include CDs, DVDs, USB and Network
drives.

You may also not be to install from a network installation point if it is on a removable drive. You can also run into some issues
with this if your environment variables are pointing to removable locations. Office 2007 setup creates the \MSOCache folder on a
'permanent' drive than does the program setup from that location.

HI Bob, thanks for your reply

I am using "\\server\share\Office12\setup.exe /config
\\server\share\Office12\Enterprice.WW\Config.xml

and the only thing I have done is to create the .msp in
\\server\share\Office12\updates and \\server\share is definetly on a non
removeable disk.
