Update Actual Start and Finish Dates in MS Project 2000

I have recently taken over updating the schedule for my organisation and true
to form I have not been shown how to update it. As the Actual Start and
Actual Finish columns contain dates which are somewhere in the future, I was
wondering how I can delete the dates in these columns to show NA or if
possible a blank. The Baseline Start and Finish columns do contain dates, but
whether a Baseline has been set or not is another matter. TIA

Dear Microsoft Office Project User,

I understand your question as "Actual Start" and "Actual Finish" columns
needs to be updated to NA for tasks with actual dates in future.

Moreover, your line " ... and true to form I have not been shown how to
update it." prompts me to say that in Microsoft Office Project there are
three sets of data; baselined, actual, current.

To know if the schedule is baseline or not, choose Tools > Tracking, Set
baseline. You should find the date suffixed at the of "Baseline" line item in
"Set Baseline:". The baseline data can be viewed through the "Baseline" table.

To enter the actuals, change the table to "Tracking" and to view the current
schedule, change the table to "Entry".

Now, back to your question about reseting all tasks with actual start and
finish with future dates to NA.

My suggestion is you add the Auto Filter
1. Choose Project > Filtered For: ..., Auto Filter to the Gantt Chart view
with "Tracking" table.
2. Set the filter criteria as "is greater than" and critieria value as
current date for "Actual Start" and "Actual Finish" columns. View is updated
with tasks with future actual start and finish dates.
3. Change the "Actual Start" and "Actual Finish" for the first task to NA.
4. Select all the cells containing the "Actual Start" and "Actual Finish" in
the current view.
5. Right click and choose Fill Down; NA would be reflected across all the
rows of the selected region.

Please let me know if this helps.

Regards
Sai, PMP
