Update Custom Field via My Tasks

S

Sebastian Cordoba

Hello everyone!

I need the Team Members to Update a Custom field (Date) and send it as part
of the report, using "My Tasks" section.

I've done this test: 1- Created a Date Custom field (at task level); 2-
Added the new field to "My Assignments" view; 3- In "My Tasks" I updated this
field (and the progress) for a task and sent the report; 4- Approved the
update.

But when I open the Project via MPP and add the custom field to the table,
the value remains as "NA".

What should I do to allow the Team Members to update this field properly?

Thank you.

Are you looking at the task level or at the assignment level in the project
plan? Try including this custom field in the task usage view and see if it
is showing up at the assignment level for the resource in question.

I haven't tested this, but my gut feeling is that TMs can only update a
lookup field items within the My Tasks page. This item then shows up in the
approvals page (and is kept in the transaction history) but does not make it
onto the project plan. This is new functionality in PS2007, and I'm not sure
how "complete" it is.

The values make it into the project plan unless the accept updates process
craps out (that never happens<g>). Jonathan is spot-on as to where to look
for them and how they behave. If you want to drive someone crazy show them
the standard Gantt chart view of a project that has had future assignment
start date changes accepted from user updates.

Thank you so much for your help.

As Jonathan said I included this custom field in the task usage view and I
was able to see the values reported from "My Tasks".

I guess I'll have to modify the value for the tasks manually according to
the values for the assignments.

See you guys!
