Upgrading from OEM Works?

J

Jim Wood

I just bought a new Dell running Vista 64-bit. It comes alreaady loaded with
MS Works 9. I need Word, etc., so I bought the Office Small Business 2007
Upgrade recommended by the salesman at Best Buy. At checkout another Best Buy
employee said, "You understand this is an upgrade...", to which I replied,
yes, the computer comes with Works 9, which is listed on the upgrade box as a
qualifying product. She allowed as how that was fine.

Well, it won't install, even when I point the installation 'validator' to
the Works program folder, or even when I put the Works restoration CD in the
drive and point it there. What do I try next, what's my recourse, am I
screwed?

Tom:

BLESS YOU! Your suggested fix required the restoration CD for Works, which
I had of course, but then it worked a treat. Office is installed and
working. This information belongs in a prominent spot on the MS Support page
that talks about upgrading to Office '07, what previous versions qualify,
etc. I am sure that I'm not the only one who bought a computer, purchased
the suggested upgrade, and then met with this same problem.

Thanks again so much!

Glad you got it working, Jim. I found it pretty quick by Googling.
