Upgrading Question?

When I bought my iMac, I also purchased & installed both Nova-
Parallels and a full version of Windows XP Home in order to use MS
Office 2000 which was on a pc that I used prior the the iMac purchase.
I have been using my iMac for nearly a year now, along with both
Office 2000 and Apple's iWork '06 with Pages on an aviation related
newsletter and records associated with aviation related events; among
other interests. Writing to the pc side with Office 2000 programs and
Apple programs has kept files separated and somewhat easy to work
with, but Office 2000 is out of date and in need of upgrading.
I have been looking at Office for Mac 2004 and the latest
information on Office for Mac '08 and it appears that the latter might
be a good choice as an update to Office 2000 for the pc side of
things, rather than updating the pc side itself. I'd like to see how
Office for Mac works as compared to the pc version before making any
decision to upgrade. Since I have no experience with Office for Mac,
does anyone know if there is a trial version available for the current
version?

Addendum to JR's link with Test Drive:

NOTE: YOU *MUST* REMOVE THE TEST DRIVE BEFORE INSTALLING A FULL VERSION
OF OFFICE or you WILL have problems. Removing the Test Drive will not
remove your documents, or email, but you should probably back up any
templates you created and various preferences first, for that see here:
http://word.mvps.org/mac/BackUpPrefs.html

If planning to buy Office 2008, I would recommend purchasing Office 2004
now, as you can then get Office 2008 for just a shipping and handling
cost, see here:
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/go/promotions/
Download the PDF to see the small print re what reciepts and proof of
purchase you need.

As Office 2004 has VBA and Office 2008 will not, having both available
should keep you set for a long time.

....And as to the main point I see in your post: No, you cannot use WinOffice
2000 to upgrade to MacOffice 2004 or 2008. The PC & Mac versions are
completely separate entities with no provision for a crossover upgrade.

IOW, you can use Office 2000 to upgrade to 2003 or 2007 (PC versions), but
if you want Mac Office 2004 or 2008 you'll have to purchase the full
version. Daiya's suggestion to grab '04 now & take advantage of the
Technology Guarantee program is good advice.

I just did a simple Google search for "Microsoft office Mac trial" and
got this as the first hit:

<http://www.microsoft.com/mac/default.aspx?pid=office2004td>

You may want to try searching before asking in the future to save
yourself some trouble. ; )

Thank you for the link! What is simple for most has not been simple
for me.

Downloaded okay, but unable to install/use as message stating trial
period has expired.
I'll wait till '08 version is out, maybe they'll offer a trial
version. Thanks!
