Is Word compatible with font management software (Macintosh OSX)? I am using Suitcase Fusion to manage my fonts (Postscript and OpenType mostly). I empty the Libraries of all but the essential system fonts, then store my fonts in a folder of my own creation. Any tips would be helpful.

Yes, Word is compatible with font managers, including Suitcase Fusion.
For best practices when managing fonts in Mac OS X, see the Font
Management Best Practices Guide: www.extensis.com/fmbpg

For a Suitcase Fusion tutorial, see this video over on Viddler:

For small values of "compatible" yes.

I would NOT use any Font Manager if you want a trouble-free existence in
Word. The more active your font manager is, the more trouble you will get
with Word.

Instead, I would define styles using the fonts you want to use. That way
you never have to look at the font list so it doesn't matter how big it is
:)

Hope this helps
