Using the Adjust Actuals Feature

I have a project manager that would like to use this feature to enter
time for resources that are not going to report time through PWA.
However, he is unable to edit any of the information for the resources
he selected, which are on his project.

The server is set with the following:

Hours of work done per day or per week: Resources report the hours
worked on each task during each time period.

Allow project managers to change the default method for reporting
progress if a different method is appropriate for a specific project.

Non-managed periods

We do let the PMs choose the time reporting method for their project,
and in this case the project is using % complete to manage the
project.

I think I may have read that you can't use the Adjust Actuals function
with the % complete option, but I wasn't sure if that was at the
server or the project level.

Any insight on this would be great!!

Eric, can you please explain how your Project Manager tries to update the
resources time ?
Thanks

Basically he has like 5 resources in the field that only do a very little bit
of work on the overall project. So over the life of a two year project,
maybe they would report time like 5 times.

He currently has one person collect the time reporting data for those
people, when they actually do something, and then updates his project plan
with that info. He currently collects this data through a series of
spreadsheets.

These people now have tasks that appear to them on PWA. He would like to be
able to update all task info through PWA, as that is the way they will be
using the tool.

He doesn't want these people to login to PWA every 4 months to report their
time. He would rather gather their time, and then go into PWA and enter
their time for them, thus updating their task.

Logging in as that user is not an option, as security at the company
prevents passing around userIDs and such.

Make sense?

Eric --

The PM cannot adjust actuals for a project whose method of tracking is
Percent Work Complete. If he really needed to Adjust Actuals, he needed to
set the method of tracking to your organization's default, which is Hours of
Work Done Per Day or Per Week. Sorry.

OK, cool. Thanks for all the advice. I sort of figured that was
going to be the case, but I wanted to make sure. Now to give him the
bad news....

You can also consider giving these users a Project Server account with
a standard password. Then your PM can login to PWA as that user and
enter time. That way you stay clear of the security folks because you
don't need their AD details.
