Very New (On 30 Day Trial)

Our IT guru installed Viso on a PC for me to review. I've been running
blind, but still able to create some nice stuff. Ultimately I want to tie
this into some budget reporting that I've been assigned. I want to create a
"dashboard" style report as opposed to the Excel spreadsheets/graphs that
most of my comrades are producing.
I've been able to do some things intuitively and Visio works well.
But just reading the post on this "New Users" page I see that there's a lot
to learn. I don't have access to a machine that has both Visio and Internet.
so first:
Can anyone recommend a good site to learn some of the real basics?
Here's one thing I'm trying to do (not related to budget, though).
I created an MS-Access database and I used the visio organization chart to
make a sort of Site map for the user views in the database. I made an Excel
spreadsheet listing the MS-Access object name under "Name" and the name of
the form that calls up the objected in a column labeled "Reports To". I had
a third field (labeled "type") in the Excel file to show the object type
(Report or Form). The organization chart wizard made a nice display.
I would like to change the color of a shape based on if it is a form or a
report. How would I go about it? (I only have 18 objects, so I could do each
item individually but I'd like to learn how to use visio to do this type of
thing.)
Peace.

Assuming this is a Visio 2007 Professional trial, you might look at the Data
Graphics feature. Select all your shapes, right click and choose Data >
Edit Data Graphic. In the dialog choose New Item > Color by Value. Then
you can pick the colors and criteria for the shapes.
