Way to re-arrange favorite links in 2007 save-as dialoge?

I would like to re-arrange the links in the left-pane save-as dialoge.
The link to the desktop is buried and I have to click the More link to
access it. On the other hand, I never use the Templates link. Is there
any way to change the order in which they appear? I'd love to move
Desktop to the top, and bury Templates where I can't see it.

It may depend on your OS. From your description, I think you are seeing the
Places Bar under Windows XP. If so, then you can right-click on any icon in
the Places Bar and choose Move Up or Move Down. Moreover, if your Desktop
icon is buried then I would guess that you haven't figured out that (a) you
can right-click any icon and choose Small Icons, which allows you to see
more icons and (b) you can drag the bottom right corner of the dialog to
make it larger, thereby making the Place Bar deeper so that it shows still
more icons.

OTOH, if you are running Vista, then what you have is something different
that I don't know how to use; perhaps someone else can advise you about
that.

I do have Vista. I did try what you said to do for XP, (right-
clicking) but found no context menu option to either move up or down,
or use small icons.

Thanks anyways.

There may be some way to customize the favorite links in Vista, but, as I
say, I haven't discovered it (don't have Vista installed and have had
minimal experience with it). Perhaps someone else will help.

There's an article at
http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/5100-10878_11-6184176.html that
promises information on customizing the Favorite Links, but I'm not sure how
helpful it is.

An article at
http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/remove-favorite-links-explorer-common-dialog-vista/
shows how to remove the Favorite Links entirely. It links to
http://www.winhelponline.com/articl...inks-in-Explorer-and-browse-dialog-boxes.html,
which shows how to hide the FL, which brings Desktop to the top; perhaps
that would help?

The article at http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/window-on-windows/?p=1256
evangelizes the Favorite Links vs. the Places Bar (I'm not convinced). It
does, however, offer information on customizing the list. See also
http://www.wictorwilen.se/Post/Customize-the-Favorite-Links-in-Windows-Vista-common-dialogs.aspx,
which shows how to add the Desktop to the Favorite Links. Another how-to at
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/wind...nks-to-windows-vista-explorer-favorite-links/

Probably plenty more where those came from (Google)!

Thanks anyways. None of the links showed how to do what I wanted to
do---but I did find a workaround. One of the options in the context
menu was to "sort by name" or some such thing. I did that, and the
Desktop moved up in order, so now it appears on the immediately
visible list (two others, Computer and DOcuments, are not visible, but
I can click to get there, and I also rarely save documents to those
directories anyways).
