What are blank e-mails with no info in the from or subject field

B

Blank e-mails

I keep receiving e-mails with no information in the from or subject field. I
have run various virus scans and nothing comes up. Any ideas on what this is?

My reply to this query yesterday:
Have you recently restarted outlook? If not, do so.

Have you looked at the mailbox using an browser? Can you either see blank
messages or can you identify messages that outlook may not be downloading?

Note that there are other causes of blank messages, not just viruses or
trojans. You need to verify the messages are blank in the mailbox.

I just restarted my computer this morning and have received blank email since
then....so, it's not that. How would I look at the mailbox using a browser?

I have the same problem. There is also no message. All of the e-mails show
2KB and there can multiple messages on the same date at the same time. I
recently installed two updates on 10/20/05 which may or may not have caused
this. They are both for Office 2003. The first is Office 2003 Service Pack 2
and Office 2003 Update For Outlook 2003 Junk E-Mail Filter. Also any ideas on
what this is.

Have you verified if it's in your mailbox on the server as blank messages?
You need to check the mailbox using a browser - then you'll know if it's
outlook doing it or a spammer /virus that doesn't know how to properly
compose a SMTP message. It's most likely a spammer or virus (not on your
computer) causing it - but you won't know for sure until you see if there
are blank messages on the mail server.

If your email provider doesn't offer web access, use
http://www.mail2web.com/ to check the mailbox.

I deinstalled the Office 2003 Update For Outlook 2003 Junk E-Mail Filter. So
far it has eliminated the blank e-mails.

I just spoke with my email provider (Comcast.net). I was told that this is a
problem that they are aware of and that they are working right now to update
their filters to prevent them from coming through. Basically, it is a SPAM
problem, they said.

I did verify that it's in my mailbox on the server as a blank message. I
then spoke with my email provider (Comcast.net) and found out that they're
working right now to update their filters to block these messages. Thanks
for your help.
