What is the difference between Publisher V6.0 and Publisher 2000?

My job sent me some Publisher files, but when I tried to open them I got an
error message because they were not of the same "file type". I'm running
Publisher 2000 SR-1 and the files to open were Publisher V6.0. Any idea how
I can fix this, please???

File > Properties (and other routes in Windows Explorer) don't tell you
the program that created the files, they just tell you what program that
you have set to open files with that extension.

Publisher 2000 did report as Publisher 6.0. I'd guess the files are from
a more recent version of Publisher - all more recent versions of
Publisher are file-compatible, so getting any of them should let you
open this file.
