Where is equivalent to Windows version of Word's Gridlines?

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Power PC

I'm trying to follow instructions at my job originally made for the Windows version of Word although I'm using Word 2008 for the Mac. It says to left-click Page Layout, Left Click Align, Left Click Grid Settings Button, Check Diisplay Gridlines on Screen, Click OK. Can someone please provide a Mac equivalent? I've looked everywhere, but I'm not looking for a table, I'm looking for dense grid that allows me to align text, which is that that feature does in the Windows version. Thank you!

The instructions you're describing are for Word 2007 on the PC. However, the
grid has nothing to do with alignment of *text*. The grid pertains to the
positioning of floating graphic objects, such as drawn shapes, text boxes,
images, etc. No version of Word provides global adjustment of text baselines
such as you would have in a professional desktop publishing/page layout
program like InDesign or QuarkXPress.

The same feature is available in Word> Preferences - either General or Edit
(I can't remember for sure & am not at a Mac for the day). On one of those
pages you'll find a button labeled Grid or Gridlines.

Just checked - It's Word> Preferences - Edit, click the Gridlines button.

It's also available as a button on the Drawing toolbar.
