Why are the "Connectors" in "Autoshapes" greyed out?

Can anyone tell me why the "Connectors" in "Autoshapes" are greyed out in my
Microsoft Word 2003 ?

I can access all other types of graphics but not Connectors.

Any help much appreciated.

HUH?

Not in my Word 2003 it doesn't? I can easily click and draw them onto
a page and I have canvas turned off?

Hmm. Me, too. But they don't seem to attach. Try drawing two AutoShapes with
a connector between them. There are no connection points, and if you move
one of the AutoShapes, the connector doesn't go with it. I can't find
anything about this in the KB, however.

Yeah, in Visio, they actually connect to draw out networking
scenarios, but for Word I think they just used the same term with less
meaning?

No, as initially stated, if you insert a drawing canvas, the connectors work
as designed.

Hi E~,

Both Visio and Powerpoint are basically 'always on' drawing canvases so the 'active connectors' behave a bit more predictably. In
Word if you use Insert=>Picture=>New Drawing (Drawing Canvas in Wd2002 and Wd2003, Draw98 in Wd97 and Wd2000) then the connector
functionallity 'lights up'. :)

Ah...thanks!

Since I never use the Drawing Canvas and don't use connectors in Word
to actually connect (use Visio if I need that feature)...I didn't
realize this.

Thanks for the explanation...now I get the difference!
