why does onenote 2007 look like onenote 2003?

Office 2007 has a cool new ribbon. OneNote 2007 does not have a ribbon. It
looks exactly like OneNote 2003. Why did Microsoft not update OneNote?

I can not say why.
But only *some* of the Office 2007 applications come with the ribbon.

Outlook, being a core part of Office, does not have it and Projekt and
Viso not either.
Honestly speaking: I'm really glad that OneNote comes without. Far
less consumption of screen real estate. And that's good for my
TabletPC.

Outlook doesn't have it in the main window, but does have the Ribbon when
editing an individual message/contact/task/calendar entry.

As far as why the other products don't have the Ribbon? It was a matter
of managing limited time and dev resources. I personally am happy with
the improvements that made it into ON2007 instead of just redoing the
existing ON2003 product with the Ribbon and no other new features.

I'm not saying that the Ribbon in and of itself is bad or a worthless
addition to the other products - I love the Ribbon. Just that given the
choice between the enhancements which made it into ON2007 and the
inclusion of the Ribbon, I am glad with the choices made.

The widely held belief that the ribbon takes up significantly more
screen real estate is a myth.

It's saaaad reality on my TabletPC.
And what's really bad with Outlook f.e. is that when the window is too
small (using portrait mode f.e. or just having made a window less
wide) *important* parts of the ribbon disappear - so the "Options"
part.
An no way to customize the thing.
I could easily leave out the "OnNote" as I have it in my customized
toolbar. Then there would be room for "Options". But I can not get at
it and "Categories" f.e. and other options are not not in the menu
:-( :-(

You can minimize the ribbon via double-clicking a tab or pressing
ctrl-f1.
To customize it, take a look at my RibbonCustomizer add-in (link below).
As soon as I have a nasty bug resolved here, I'll post the Starter
Edition and the 14 days free trial one.

Aloha tersiocity,

1. Because they had to choose between the ribbon and internal hyperlinking.
They didn't have the time/resources to do both. I'd much rather have the
hyperlinks.

2. Because the purpose of the ribbon is to make large numbers of features
more discoverable -- OneNote doesn't have so many menu items that it really
needs the menu for people to discover them.

Thanks fro the hint.
Seems that I will have to buy that.
Too bad that MS did not take vcare of customizing the "ribbon".
IMO it's really crazy that the system decides what's taken awy when
there is not enough space.

Once more a serious conflict with the basic GUI-Design rule "User in
command!".

100% d'accord.

I don't.
