Windows mail 6.06 not compatible with Office Home & Student 2007??

X

xambicula

I previously posted this question on the Programs Forum and a Microsoft
person said it was more appropriate to post it here.
Why a programs person can't answer a program question, I don't know.

I bought a new HP Pavilion laptop with Vista Home Premium pre-installed.
I bought and installed Office Home & Student 2007.
The Word program will not allow me to email documents from within Word. I
have to send documents as an attachment. I prefer to send the document from
Word the way I could with my old laptop which ran Windows Me.
I have gone into Default Programs and selected Windows Mail as my default
mail program. It never stays selected.
Also when I try to e-mail a scanned document from Document Manager I get an
error message saying email is not available.
I read several threads here and from what I see Office 2007 and Windows Mail
6.06 cannot communicate with each other.

Is there a FREE Windows Mail download that WILL be compatible with Office
2007??
Why can't these work together??

Word needs the MAPI handler that comes with Outlook to use the "Send to"
feature.

D

DL

Apart from JoAnn's post;
Generally its better to send an Office doc as an attachment (origonal format
is retained)
When you run MSUpdate are you installing any Outlook updates? Outlook
updates often reset the mail handler
Was any trial version of Office preinstalled?
Where are you setting Mail as the default?

"Word needs the MAPI handler that comes with Outlook to use the "Send to"
feature."
Hi JoAnn,
I should have added that I am not a techie so I have no idea what MAPI
handler is or means.
Apparently this computer does not have Outlook. I Clicked on the Start Menu
and searched all programs and Outlook isn't there. This computer onlu has
Windows Mail 6.0.6.

Hi DL --

There was a trial version of Office installed. Since I knew it was going to
expire and it was essential to even using this computer I didn't activate it.
I uninstalled it and installed the purchased Office Home & Student 2007 disk.

I set Windows Mail as the default in the Start menu. There is a listing for
default programs. I clicked on that and clicked on "Set Default Programs"
and clicked on Windows Mail. Nothing comes up or registers.
Then I went into Default Programs and clicked on Set Program Access and
Computer Defaults.
I clicked on Custom and selected all the Windows programs -- Mail, IE, Media
Player, etc.

The email option in Word still is not there and When I try to send scanned
documents through Document Manager I get a "no e-mail service available"
message. So I go back to the Custom settongs and NOTHING is selected that I
had previously checked. I selected and powered off and re-booted thinking
maybe the reboot would save the selections but NOTHING is working.

And as I stated above, I have no idea what JoAnn's suggestion means or how
to do it or find instructions for it.

D

DL

JoAnn's response means that Outlook needs to be installed/configured to use
the Word send to option that you desire, otherwise a word doc is created as
an attachment, which IMO is the best option
In Internet Options set Mail as the default mail program

G & O -- I was under the impression that if I PURCHASED something from
Microsoft in good faith and had a problem, help would be available. Since
phone help (and according to Peter, e-mail help -- which I NEVER asked for)
is NOT available (it WAS when I bought my other laptop with Windows Me) I
logged on to the Microsoft Support site. Apparently the ONLY assistance
offered for a PROBLEM with a product purchased FOUR WEEKS ago is posting on a
forum and hoping someone has a helpful answer.
If you find me a bit testy, don't answer.

xambicula

PS TO DL--
I'll take your suggestion and send the documents as attachments.
My problem with doing that is that some offices I deal with have their
e-mail checked with hyper sensative security programs and sometimes the
e-mails with attachments are blocked or the attachment is unpoenable (if that
is a word) on their end.

I SOOOOO feel your pain!
One option would surely be to take it back and return as faulty. I quite
often find I get assistance very quickly when I take this approach.
Inconvenient, but often highly effective!
Good luck with it, and remember to take very long deep breaths when dealing
with Microsoft. "Good Faith" is not part of their vocabulary!! ;-)

DL

I'm unsure what Programs Forum you posted to, I don't believe its a group
hosted on the ms server
MS employees rarely post in these groups, excepting in a private capacity.
MS provides email or phone support (a limited number of free calls) for its
products. You need to go through the MS support site for this.

Hi DL --

Here's the link to the Programs Forum

http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistaprograms/threads

There are people who identify themselves as Microsoft Engineers that post
replies much in the same way people post here.
Someone named Naveen directed me here.
I don't even remember how I ended up there.
I stumble onto these Microsoft pages and bookmark them because I have found
that in the past I can almost never find the same page twice.
I'm giving up on this and will adjust on what I can do with the program and
forget about what I USED to be able to do with Me.

Thanks for trying to help. I really do appreciate it.

Thanks for the tea and sympathy, lol.

OK, Problem solved.

I went into Word and right clicked the Tool Bar and hit Customize Tool Bar.
From the drop down I hit All Programs and added Send to Mail Recipient.
Now I have a working e-mail option directly in Word.
Thanks to everyone except g & o who is a real creep.

Garfield is not a creep. He's a very nice guy. Please remember that we are
just volunteers and that your original post in here didn't come across as
polite. Mood is something that doesn't transfer in an email and we get a lot
of people who have a sense of entitlement to a response. Tech support is
rarely free so a little kindness when asking for volunteers to help you is
ALWAYS a good tactic. ;-)

Hi JoAnn --

I had no idea that these forums questions were answered by volunteers.
Silly me, I thought actual Microsoft people were assigned to man these boards
to answer consumer questions. They are Microsoft sites, arent' they? That's
a sincere question. It never occured to me it would be "regular" people.
As for phone help which was mentioned in one of the other posts or
individualized help online, the key code on the package was rejected. I
don't know why unless Staples is selling bootleg copies.

And to LV Travel who posted below -- I didn't realize emailing my lawyer
and accountant from home constituted a breech of usage.

1. Stop whining. Nobody here or in the "Programs Forum"
(whatever
that is) OWES
you an answer.
2. Try using Method 2 in

"The 'E-mail'
command is missing or is unavailable in Excel 2007, in
PowerPoint
2007,
or in Word
2007".

In what little life I have outside work, I do deal with offices. There's the
bank, the lawyer, the doctor, realtor ... all life's little and not so little
annoyances.

IOW, "dealing with offices" doesn't necessarily mean "using for business".

IAC, I figure Microsoft wrote the software and the licenses. I'm happy to let
them worry about this stuff. Saves a few Hg worth of blood pressure. ;-)
