Word 2003 hangs when adding comments in Normal View

Hi Folks,

I've just come across a very strange, but consistent, error. It's
probably just something with my installation, but I'm not sure how to
go about fixing it, other than a complete reinstall of office 2003
(ugh).

Whenever I put a document in Normal View (View -> Normal), and then
try to add a comment (Insert -> Comment), the text turns red, and
starts flickering. Word hangs at that point, and I have to kill it
with task manager.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Allie

I forgot to add: I'm on Windows XP Pro SP2, and Word 2003 with no
service packs. I have 1.5 GB RAM, and a 2GHz processor.

Have you run Detect and Repair from the Help menu in Word? I expect that
probably if you updated Office it would resolve this issue as I have not
seen this one for several years now.

Thanks Terry - I tried everything: detect & repair, installing Office
SP3, etc. Nothing worked - until i disabled my MathType 6 plugin.
Then it worked just fine. So, now I'm updating mathtype to 6.0c, and
we'll see if that fixes the problem. If not, then goodbye MathType!
I'm looking into Aurora anyway, for LaTeX formatting equations in
word...

Thanks again.

And - it seems 6.0c fixes the problem, fyi...

I please it is resolved. Design Science who produce MathType (the standard
Word Equation Editor) provide an excellent support service if you have any
further problems. www.dessci.com

It shows the importance of keeping software patched up to date too.
