Word 'AutoNew' macro runs twice in document Template?

Haydn

Hi

I have document with some Fill-in fields in, and I want to
save it as a template and set a macro so that every time a
new document is created from the template, the user is
prompted for all the Fill-in boxes straight away.

I made my document, inserted the fields, recorded a macro
called "AutoNew" as described in Word Help, and then saved
the file as a template. But when I create a new file from
the template, Word prompts for all the Fill-in fields
twice. If I save the resulting document and re-open it
then I am again asked to fill in the fields even though
it's not a new document! It looks like I have the macro in
two places: once in the correct "AutoNew" section so it
runs each time a new document is created, but also
somewhere else that results in it running each time the
documents are opened.

I have checked the Tools > Macros screen and there are no
macros listed for the template or any resulting documents.
How do I resolve this because it's getting very annoying!
Thanks very much.

Hi Haydn,

The trick here is that you don't need this macro for Fillin
fields. Word automatically triggers their display prompts
when you create a new document from an existing one. So
that's why you're seeing the prompts twice :)

This is NOT the case with ASK fields, however (just for the
sake of completeness).
