Word constantly crashing

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Working on a word doc, it quit.Despite repeatedly asking to "reopen" , Microsoft Word continued to "quit unexpectedly". Immediately "unexpectedly quit" whatever word doc I tried to open. Other products, such as excel no problem

You have not said what update level Word is at, so your first step is to
check for updates and apply the latest updates.

Thanks for getting back. Cannot check for updates (of version 12.0.0) because word won't launch

You can have Office updated from Help> Check for Updates in any of the
Office programs, so if you can launch Excel, PPT or Entourage you should
have no problem. If none of the Office apps will run...

Go to: HD/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/MAU2.0 & launch the
AutoUpdate app directly. Alternatively you can go to the Mactopia Downloads
site & individually download & apply 12.1.0, 12.2.0 & 12.2.3 in that order.
