Word crashes when I attempt to insert picture from file.

When I attempt to insert a picture from a file (before I even get a chance to
click on the picture I want to insert), I get the annoying error message that
"Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry
for the inconvenience." I have closed and restarted Word numerous times, and
I have also rebooted my computer. The only other thing I can think of to do
is to reload Word. Any other suggestions as to what might cause this? (I am
using Word 2003.) aw

Hi aw,

Try repairing your Word installation (Help|Detect & Repair). If that doesn't work, try the approaches suggested here:

for various series of troubleshooting steps that will help you track down (and hopefully solve) the problem.
