word document saves as .lnk

Version: 2004 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel I am having problems with submitting word documents to a blackboard assignment box - the problem is only with this one course, so I think the folder in which I keep the documents may be the cause. I have re-saved documents into different areas with different names, I have made new folders and deleted the old and that's about it.

My word document has a .doc association but, professor sees it as a .lnk If I open the attachment, it does send me to a blank web page. I know it is linked to a short-cut, but I can't seem to find where or how to stop the association for every new document I create and try to post.

Thank you for your advice...

I'm unclear where and when the link (is it really a Mac OS alias?) is
being created -- on your local disk? After you post it to the
blackboard? And what method do you use to post it?

So am I! The document I create with a .doc association opens and behaves as a normal document would once opened, however, when I attach the document to the Blackboard assignment drop box - either via their appelet/or direct selection- my prof. replies he cannot open it because it is a .lnk document. If I open the document at the attachment site on blackboard, a blank web browser opens first and then my download window opens where the document is downloaded to...

I'm only having problems with this one box, and I think that I've created a link somewhere within this folder that is creating the same occurrence for every newly created and saved document in that folder. To by-pass this, I save the document as an .rtf submission. Works, but is annoying not being able to correct.

Hope that is clearer. Thanks for your reply.

Hi Claire:

No, sorry, that's no clearer :)

We need to know what is in the .lnk file, and what is supposed to be there.

Get the system administrator for the site to open the .lnk file for you and
tell you exactly what URL it contains, and what it is supposed to be.

Then we can tell you what is wrong. This is not a Word problem: Word does
not save .lnk files: their computer is doing that. Where is it putting the
original document? What is the link to the original supposed to be? And
what is their system actually putting in the link file?

Cheers
