Whenever I produce a document in Word and then send it to someone as an attachment, they are, invariably, unable to open it. I use "save as" and the format "Word 97-2004 Document (.doc).

How are you sending it? What email program? Does the file have the .doc
extension? Are4 the users double clicking it in the email, or saving it to
their hard drives and using File-Open from Word?

Additional to Bob G's comments make sure your emaail software is set to send
"Windows friendly attachments" - usually a Preference of MIME/Base 64 or
Apple Double... depends on the program. Also, Zip the files & send the
zipped copy as the attachment.
