Word does not open online web pages correctly.

Hi Wayne,

What version of Word (2003, 2007, ??) and do you have a URL for page where this occurs?

There are a lot of web page features that Word doesn't understand.
For the link issue if you're seeing {Hyperlink...} then use Alt+F9 to toggle the display from Field codes to field result.

I have MSO-SB, which includes Word. Well Word will not open (as it should) an
online Web Page correctly when I enter a URL in the Open File dialogue box.
It loads everything in a scriptive mess. If any text has a link attached to
it, Word displays the link information and not the text. It is the same for
pictures, only background information that a picture should be there but not
the picture itself.

Hi Bob,

Thank you so much for the help.

There were three pictures Word could not get so I saved them and inserted
them later. However, another problem raised it's problematic head: When I
saved the file as a web page Word could not reload it. It gave the "Word has
encountered a problem and needs to close" error. An error report was sent to
MS. However, not all was lost, I saved it in a Word doc and it reloaded with
no problems (well it was a bit slow). I hope you do not mine me battering you
like this? There is another one! When I click on some active links in Words'
help file it gives this error: Security is too high in browser or the file
QUACTRL.OCX did not install correctly. What does the browser have to do with
Words' help file?

Thank you again for your time and effort,
Wayne

QUACTRL.OCX is part of Office2000 Help. Office Help is displayed in a
browser window. My guess is that either the QUACTRL.OCX or the browser is
partially corrupt or there is a security issue in the browser stopping help
from running.

Hi Wayne,

As Terry mentioned, the OUACTRL.ocx ActiveX control was used in Office 2000 to show the samples and how-to links. For security
reasons MS later disabled it in an update.

For the web pages in Tools=>Options=>General=>Web Options do you have the setting turned on to Save Web documents as single file
(.MHT)? Those can end up being files that Word won't be able to reopen. Can you open the same saved files in your browser (you may
need to right click and choose 'open with' and select Internet Explorer to have Word bypassed for that check.

Also, to see if Word may be running into a problem related to something else try starting Word while holding down the ctrl key to
enter Office safe mode and then use File=>Open to try the file again. Before doing so use Ctrl+Alt+Del to see if any instances of
process Winword.exe is running. If so, end that process first.

Hi Wayne,

If you're using Word 2000 (which is possible if you have the OUACtrl.OCX, then ignore the previous portion about using Office safe
mode. Instead use Start=>Run and type in
Winword.exe /A
