Word doesn't recognize my XML schema

I never had a problem before but now when I try to attach an XML schema, I
get an error message: "The XML expansion pack or schema file could not be
installed."
I'm using Word 2003 and I'm wondering if I deleted a function that installs
the XML schema.

Are you just trying to insert a schema into the schema library, or is it
actually being inserted as part of an expansion pack?

Have you used this particular schema successfully in Word before? If
not, I would have to suspect that Word is finding some error in it.

It is quite a while since I was doing this stuff but ISTR that if you
have another schema with the same namespace, Word would not install the
new one until you deleted the old one, and, because Word/Office seems to
cache schemas, you sometimes had to close Word (and sometimes even
Windows) before the old one was completely removed.
