Word Files & Blaster Worm

T

Torie

Recently my computer was infected with the
notorious "blaster worm" and I was unable to perform copy
and paste functions. I have since apply the security patch
and removed the worm from my computer - however I have
notice that I can not open some of my Word XP files. It is
not an application error because I can open some files and
I can't open others.

For the Word files that I can not open, Word opens but
just hangs, when I try to re-open the file a second time I
get an error message that the file caused a serious error
the last time it was open.

I just wondering if anyone knew if this "blaster worm" has
any effect on Word files? Does it have the capability to
infect and corrupt random Word files on my computer?

Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

Thanks

Torie

Very little information has been disseminated about the effects of the
worm--mostly just instructions on how to get rid of it--but all the
documents I've seen emphasize that it does no permanent damage to files or
applications, though it causes a lot of annoying problems before it's
cleaned, such as not allowing you to copy/paste, print, or even open Word
without a lot of error messages. As the initial furor dies down, perhaps
we'll get more information about any more lasting effects.
