Word freezes when using tables

Hi,

I'm not sure this is a problem with word or my mac, but it seems like it's word. Every time I try to construct tables I have to save after typing every small thing, because word freezes at weird times and I lose my work. I get the spinning beach-ball and I have to force quit the app. I tried waiting it out once, but after an hour I got impatient... All other apps work fine while the beach-ball is spinning in word. It's really annoying to have to open and close the same document 30 times to finish one table :(
Any ideas or help is greatly appreciated!

I'm no expert on this, but the last time I saw this type of
behavior it was due to a corrupted document. The "Maggie" fix
corrected it (i.e. copy everything except for the last paragraph
marker of your document into a new document)

I've seen this on PCs as well as Mac.

Normally, as soon as you start typing something, the little icon
of the book at the bottom of the window gets the little pencil
icon writing into to. I think that this simply indicates
background processes are active (e.g., repagination for page
numbering, etc.). Normally this icon action stops after a few
seconds but when you have the document corruption, if you type
more than a sentence or two, the icon can be active for 3 or 4
minutes before it stops--if it stops at all.

Hi thanx for you replies!

I also asked somewhere else and that solution seems to have fixed it: it was probably due to duplicate fonts. I cleaned up my font book and resolved duplicates and now it seems to work fine.

I'll keep your answers in mind if this ever happens again!
