Word will not close because it says there is a dialog box is open

When I try to close Word, an error box pops up that says Word cannot close
because there is a dialog box open and instructs me to switch to Word and
close the dialog box. Well I am in Word and there are no open dialog boxes.

This is usually the AntiVirus. Known causes are the Office Add-in options in
Norton AV and Kaspersky amongst others. You need to open the AV setup and
disable the Office Plug-in.
