Workspace size on backup different from "properties" size - help..

Groove 2007 Standard Workspace
When I right-click a workspace in the lauchbar and view Properties, one of
my workspaces has a size of 600mb. However, when I use a backup utility to
generate a backup archive, the size is only 400mb, quite a difference. I
have the same "difference in size" issuse with several workspaces. I've also
tried 2 different backup utilities, but both backup utilities generate the
same size (400mb). What's going on here? Thanks.

I expect that the backups do not include synchronization information. Check
out "How to recover disk space that is used by a Groove workspace" at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;922142

Here's an excerpt:

The workspace properties displays the disk space that is currently allocated
to that workspace. Groove periodically deletes data that is no longer needed.
To maintain workspace integrity, Groove retains the data that members remove
from the workspace on disk until it has received acknowledgement that every
member of the workspace has received the changes. For example, if you delete
files from the Files Tool, or you remove a tool, Groove will save this data
on a disk.
------------------------

Because of this, a workspace with extensive activity or members who are not
frequently online will typically take up significantly more room than its
contents, while in a workspace with less activity and more active members,
the difference will be less noticeable. This is also why frequent purges of
data will sometimes make a workspace bigger, rather than smaller.

Makes perfect sense given the traffic on this particular workspace. Thank
you very much for the quick reply.
