Wrong Icon for .doc files

I installed Office 2003 on a clean Vista operating system. When I moved my
backed up files back onto the system the .doc file's icons show a white page
of paper with the W icon on it, not the standard icon you would see. In fact
the .rtf file's icons show a page of paper with lines on it and small graphic
on the right with a small W on the left hand side some on and some off the
paper. This wasn't this way when they where on the system before. I don't
know why this happened. The incorrect icon files point to Word to open and
open properly, its just the icon. I've looked on the internet and see others
have this problem but no one knows how to fix it without buying a program to
fix it. I don't want to do that. Shouldn't have to. Appearnly this happens on
XP systems too. Others have installed 2007 and still have the problem. I did
uninstall and reinstall Office but no advail. Don't know what to do and don't
have the time to call in for support. Its all India techs anyway who I can
bearly understand and I don't have the time to screw around with that. I just
want it fixed.

This has nothing to do with Word but is an operating system issue. In
Windows XP you can select tools > folder options > file types DOC and change
the associated icon you anything you want. I would imagine Vista has
something very similar. If it all works as intended, why does it matter?
