1.9GB Entourage database corrupted

Cliff Miller

Hi,

While I was trying to send email Entourage suddenly quit, saying that
my database was corrupted. Trying to fix the database through the
regular and advanced repair tools resulted in error messages saying
that the database was unable to be repaired, couldn't be accessed
(checking the permissions didn't show anything unusual, though), or
that I needed to quit other Office apps (I had none open).

I tried copying a backup of the database that I had from about a month
ago, and the same thing happened: Entourage said it needed to be
repaired but wasn't able to repair.

Starting Entourage fresh, without a database, works fine, but I'd
really like to have my old email and addresses.

The database file is about 1.9 GB, so I'm wondering whether I may
have reached a limit.

Any suggestions will be VERY much appreciated!

Cliff

Notifications is an Office app. Did you quit Notifications?

Ways to quit when you can't open Entourage

1. Double-click the Office Notifications program, located in the Microsoft
Office X/Office folder. On the Office Notifications menu, click Turn Off
Office Notifications.
2. Fire up 'Process Viewer' (Panther renames to Activity Monitor), look for
'database daemon' and choose 'quit process' from the processes menu (just do
a normal quit, not a forced quit).
3. Easiest way.....use this script:

tell  application "Microsoft Database daemon" to  quit

You can download the script here:

It could be Notification that is causing the problem with the old one.

You didn¹t mention what version of Entourage you are using. Entourage 2001
has a 2GB limit, but Entourage X with upgrades applied has a 4 GB limit and
will warn you when you get close.

Yes, I think installing the latest updates 10.1.4, 10.1.5 will resolve this issue.
A third pary utility is also there on versiontracker website (EntourAid) to repair the database (It's completely a 3rd party solution, use it
if you want with your reponsibility after taking full backup of your existing database file).
You may loose data while using this utility, but there are chances that you'll recocver some of your mails.

This exact same thing happened to me, with a 1.9 GB database and an error of
40 or 41 (can¹t quite remember which). I downloaded the latest two
versions of the updater to 10.1.4, and then restarted Entourage (you¹ll need
your CD key handy) with the option key down, and did an Advanced Rebuild of
the database. Worked great, and back in business.

Without the update, I tried doing what Diane suggested, and no joy. The
update is the key (I was using Entourage X without the updates prior to the
problem).

Good luck
