1 journal entry for multiple contacts

I am pulling my hair out. I have several contacts that I need to make the
same journal entry for. I can't seem to get it. I have tried to follow the
"Making a common change to multiple contacts" and it is not working. Please
help.

Make the journal entry for one contact. Open that journal entry. At the
bottom, in the Contact box, enter the other contacts you want to link this
journal entry to.
