Update 10.1.4 is suddenly causing Entourage to quit unexpectedly when I
click on the dotMac IMAP "Deleted Items" folder. Is anyone else seeing this?

Hi, Rachel

No. I have a mac.com IMAP account and I can click on it with no problem.
That is likely to have nothing to do with the update, more likely a corrupt
message in there which is selected as you try to open the folder.
Go to Tools/Accounts/Mail/dotMac/Edit/Advanced, and select "Empty Deleted
Items folder on quit" and "Delete all messages". Then quit. Then relaunch.

If that doesn't fix, try an Advanced Rebuild. If even that doesn't fix it,
use Office Remover from the Value Pack, re-install Office v. X, apply 10.1.2
updater, 10.1.4 updater. I don't think you'll need to do this however.

Thanks, Paul(MVP). I didn't know that trick. But the problem seems to be
caused by Entourage's inability to function when it's database exceeds 12
MB.

What this means is that I need to rebuild the database every week or
Entourage crashes, is this normal? I was assured by users that Entourage's
handling of the database was much more robust than Outlook Express. This 12
MB limit is a little disappointing and I hope they fix it!

Care to comment?

The database limit for Entourage 10.1.4 is 4 GB (and you will get warnings
as you get close to that size)

D

Dennis T Cheung

I assure you that is not the case. Entourage can handle a database that is
greater than 12 MB. In fact, it can handle 4 gigabytes, as opposed to the
erroneous comments posted on Macintouch.com today.

The database size limit in OS 10.1.0-10.1.4 is 4 GB, not 12 MB. (It's never
been 12 MB, In 10.0.0 it was 2 GB.)

Do an ADVANCED Rebuild, once, to correct this problem.

I'm having the same problem, I've tried everything I can find that has been
posted and suggested. IE crashes as does Entourage upon an HTML e-mail.
I've tried correcting permissions, rebuilt the drive, reinstalled, etc.
Same results. If I go to an HTML e-mail Entourage quits, IE 5.2.3 quits
right after it opens.

Does anyone have any idea how to correct it?

Hi Perry!

Entourage uses the IE engine to render HTML, so this makes sense that if IE
is having problems then Entourage could be having problems. (Correct me if
I'm wrong, Entourage MVPs.)

Can you create another user account on your Mac for testing purposes?

While logged in under the test account, do you still have the same problem
trying to launch IE? (Don't worry about Entourage right now.)

If not, then your problem lies with a preference file of some sort within
your own user account.

Let's test that first and this will give us an idea of what to try next.

Thanx! bill

Bill,

I tried a second user and IE works perfectly. No problem at all. I've
tried dragging the com.microsoft.explorer.plist to my desktop and that
didn't help.

Let me know what's next.

Thank you,

Perry

Almost perfectly correct (sorry Paul!).

Entourage uses the IE engine to render complex HTML only. Simple HTML is
rendered by Entourage.

You can go to the preferences and turn off 'display complex HTML' - then
Entourage won't use the IE libraries to render HTML. See if that solves the
problem, and we may be one step closer.
Problem solved. I tried everything and then then did a restore via Apple
Backup of my Internet Explorer Settings only. The first two files I tried
alone previously without success. Restoring all of the files worked though.

The files restored are:

com.apple.internetconfig.plist
com.microsoft.explorer.plist
downloads.html
english.toolbar.xml
favorites.html
history.html
home.xml

I know others are experiencing the same problem. Hope this helps.

Thanx for the followup!

Did this also fix your Entourage problem?

Barry,

I have been following the thread of this problem and have had same issues;
which are a) Entourage crashes on opening any html formatted mail, and b) IE
crashes every time on launch.

OS X 10.2.6 build 6L60, IE 5.2.3, Entourage 10.1.4 (030702)

Notes:

1) When I login on same Mac as different user IE launches fine (which as you
suggest would seem to indicate prefs problem in my main user - although I've
thrown these prefs out several times to no avail).

2) in entourage I have now turned off 'display complex HTML' and the problem
is solved - I can now open HTML mail and entourage does not crash.

3) so, the problem is with IE which crashes on launch every time. What can
be done to fix this?

Delete com.apple.internetconfig.plist. If that doesn't work,
Delete com.microsoft.explorer.plist.

About all you can do is scour the /Library/Preferemces folder fo anything
associated with IE and move it out of the way.

You may get more details on the ie newsgroup.

Same problem is back - which seems to suggest something is corrupting the
prefs file. It happens without me even using IE.

Quit IE and Entourage. Go to /Users/[username]/Library/Preferences and
delete com.apple.internetconfig.plist and com.microsoft.explorer.plist
files. Launch IE and set any prefs you need there. Now try in Entourage.
