100% uninstall Office XP

C

Carl

My installation of Office XP is corrupt. Simply re-
installing over the old version, or removing then re-
installing does not fix the problem. I suspect there are
registry entries, scattered files, and other pollution
that is persistant that I need to get rid of.

How can I 100% remove all of Office XP, including any
hidden stuff that is not otherwise removed by Add/Remove
programs?

Thanks,

Carl.

Hi Carl,

Uninstalling Office XP thru ARP will take off everything that it puts on
with the exception of User Data and third party addin stuff. Basically,
everything in your user profile is left behind.

Since you are able to uninstall and reinstall Office XP without troubles,
this basically indicates that the core Office files and registry keys are
fine. This leaves your Profile and possible addins. There are many third
party utilities and programs that interface with Office. These can cause
problems.

The best place to start is by letting us know what errors you are having.

Many Office apps have a safemode switch that you can use to launch the
program.

Winword /a
Excel /s
Outlook /safe

If you can do this and the apps don't crash, the issue is likely with an
addin. There are a few places where addins start

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\STARTUP
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\XLSTART

C:\Documents and Settings\<Your logon name>\Application
Data\Microsoft\AddIns (Word, Excel and the rest can have an Addins folder
as well.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office (Look for Addins folders under
each app name as well

I'll look for your post.
