11.1 update deleted my identity

Jef Van der Voort

Hi

After updating Office with AutoUpdate, I get the Assistant if I start
Entourage. All my mails disappeared. I checked the Microsoft User Data
folder and it's size is 18Mb. This is about the default size so my
identity is not in there.

Has the update deleted my identity??

For you rinformation: I have two accounts on my computer: one admin and
one normal user. I installed the update as an admin, the identity of
the user account has been deleted (the admin doesn't use Entourage at
all).

Any help??

Thanks,
Jef

That is a worrying report. I have not seen any other reports of data loss
following upgrade, which may (or may not) be an indication of unconnected
problems.

Please clarify - were you logged into the system as an admin user, or were
you logged in as a user and validated with an admin password when prompted
to do so by the installer?

Also, have you checked the contents of the MUD folder in the documents
folder in the admin & user's Documents folder (ignore any mud folder in the
Documents folder at the top level of the disk (if one exists there) - that
folder is used by the Classic environment and any MUD folder there has been
left over from Entourage 2001.

The MUD folder in the user documents area should contain some or all of
these items:

Entourage Script Menu Items
Entourage Sound Sets
Entourage Temp
Import Mappings
MSN Messenger History
Office 2004 Identities
Printing Forms
Saved Attachments
Signatures

In the Office 2004 Identities folder there should be a separate folder for
each identity you have declared. Check the size of these.

If those files/folders appear to be in order, try 'Switch Identity...' in
the entourage menu. Your identity may show up in the list there.

If none of this works, the most likely explanation is that there is some
corruption in your hard disk - try running DFA or some other disk utility
programme to see if you can fix the problem and recover the data.
