1309, error reading from file: D:\pfiles\msoffice\office-outlctl.d

When I try and install Office 2000 Premium from ther disk, it posts this
error. Then, for some reason, when I cancel out, it seems to make my CD
drive disappear. In device manager and elsewhere there is no longer a D
Drive or an associated CD rom. What would cause this?

The CD rom drive appears just fine before I try installing this, and is in
the device manager. When I shut down and restart the CD rom drive is back on
there, and I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver to try and
fix this. Still, the same thing occurs. Any ideas?
