2 Identities folder questions

I'm using Office 2004. I noticed that there are still folders of
Identities from my old versions of office (2001 and X). I'd like to
delete those to make some room on the harddisk... is that okay to do?

And while I'm in this topic, I just compacted the database in
Entourage. It's the first time I've tried it in Office 2004. It made
this extra folder called Main Identity Backed up. I backed up
everything just before I did the compact, so can I delete that file?

Thanks to anyone for helping!

yes, that should be okay. Entourage 2004 requires its identities to be in
the Office 2004 Identities folder, so these old identities do not affect
your current database. If you are happy with the data you currently have
(i.e. you don't need to import older items from these older databases), you
can delete them. If you really want to be on the safe side, you might want
to consider backing them up on a CD-Rom.

Before you delete that one, make sure that it is not the identity you are
currently running. To do that, open Entourage, then go to Entourage>Switch
Identity. In the list that shows up, see which identity is highlighted,
since that's the one you're running right now. If that's not the backup
identity, then yes, feel free to delete it (the backup). Though I'd always
recommend backing up one's user identity, simply in the case something goes
wrong. You might want to keep your backup copy around for a short time, and
then periodically create new backups by making a copy of your Office
identity folder which you should store on external media such as USB flash
drives or CDs/DVDs. For more backup tips, visit

You're welcome.
