2004 Entourage won't Update data from Office X 10.1

Hi, have read a bunch of your support emails, but not found an answer to
this situation.
I just installed Office 2004 including update to 11.3.5 and it didn¹t update
my data from Office X 2001. I ran Œremove old versions of Office¹ (clicking
the option to keep my files) and thankfully saved it all before trashing.
First run opened without my files and so copied the Main identity from the
old MUD into new, naming the new one Main Identity 1, thinking it would go
for the Main identity by default. Now I can¹t seem to get the Main identity
to install into MUD for Office 2004 and it won¹t open, and tells me I don¹t
have access, as this file might be open. Entourage X still runs fine and all
data is there, though it is housed in the MUD for 2004. What gives there? It
doesn¹t make sense. Especially as all files in Word and Excel open just
fine.
Would love help to get all data into the new version.

Hi,

there are two reasons why this is not working.

1) Entourage v.X databases need to be in ~/Documents/Microsoft User
Data/Office X Identities, while Entourage 2004 databases are stored in
~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2004 Identities. You cannot use the
same database for both programs since they need to be in different locations
on the hard disk for the applications to work correctly.

2) Entourage 2004 cannot simply use an Entourage v.X database. Entourage
2004 changed the database format, so it needs to modify an existing
Entourage v.X database and copy it into the Office 2004 Identities folder in
order to access it. This needs to be done through the Import feature; in
Entourage 2004, click on File>Import, select the appropriate option, and
Entourage will show you a list of available Entourage v.X identities which
it can import. After you've done that, you should be able to access your old
identity in Entourage 2004 (you may have to click on Entourage>Switch
Identity, since you have an active Main Identity running just now).
