2004 Mac Suddently getting same multiple messages

Suddendly, about 2 weeks ago, when I open, I get messages for this
year. I go thru and delete what not supposed to be because I've already
deleted them. Then the same messsages keep coming back in - either
when Send & Receive time goes to zero andd/or when I open Entourage.
This is NOT every time. I cannot figure out the time schedule of when
it does this.

I have not changed any thing. I am now up to 6,751 Deleted Items. At
one time, when I clicked on the Deleted Items folder, many of the
messages in that folder went away. No longer.

Where are these messages being stored? On my Mac? or on a Server
somewhere? How can I get rid of or greatly reduce the number?

How can I stop these duplicates keep on coming in?

It sounds like you have selected to "leave on server" for you POP account.
Open Accounts under Tools in the Menu bar. Open the account and click on the
Options tab. Uncheck "leave on server".

Another option is to log into your account with your web browser and move
the older messages out of the Inbox. Be careful you don't go over your limit
for messages storage.

Diane,

Under the Options I had:
ˆ Leave a copy of each message on the server
ˆ Delete messages from the server after they are deleted from
this computer.

I just unchecked both of them.

When I 'delete' the extras in the inbox, the count goes down, and the
count in the Deleted Items goes up.

I just quit and then Opened Entourage. I still have the same count. Is
there a way I can delete the Deleted Items folder? Is this a
possibility that I can do this?

What is the limit for items in the Inbox? I have created several
folders and have messages there. The inbox count I'm talking about is
for those emails that I have NOT moved to one of those folders.

Thanks for responding.

I would keep the second option to delete from server when deleted from
computer. This way when you delete spam especially, it's not there to
download again.

Same count where?

You can't delete this folder but you can select to delete the items in this
folder. I have a schedule that runs once a week to delete all messages older
than 5 days old. This way I'm covered if I find I deleted something I might
want to recover.

There is no limit in Entourage. You Inbox on your host is determined by the
size they give you. It's not specifically for the Inbox but for all folders.

I'm going to keep this email for reference, just in case it hapens
again.

I both the Inbox and Deleted Items, because I actually did not get any
'new' mesages. I was hoping that the messages in the Deleted Items
folder would have no count.

I just opened the Deleted Items folder, selected all the items and it
deleted all 6,7xx items! HOORAY!

Just to make sure I understand. You go into the Options, click on
"Leave a copy of each message on the server and then click on "Deleted
messages from the server after 5 days?

Just out of curiosity, is there an easy way to find the size?

Diane, you certainly deserve a Gold Star for this. It was really
worrying me. It would be great, though, to know why suddenly this
started when I made no changes whatsoever.

I just opened the Deleted Items folder, selected all the items and it
deleted all 6,7xx items! HOORAY!

Now open your Schedules under Tools in the Menu bar.

There might be a default "Empty Deleted Items folder" set, if not create a
new schedule.

Open the schedule and set it for

Recurring

Delete Mail from Deleted Items folder OLDER then xx days. (I use 5 days,
YMMV)
Just to make sure I understand. You go into the Options, click on
"Leave a copy of each message on the server and then click on "Deleted
messages from the server after 5 days?

I suggest...

ˆ Leave a copy of each message on the server
ˆ Delete messages from the server after xxx days (I set for 5 days because I
have one mailbox that has a small limit, the default is 30 days.)
ˆ Delete messages from the server after they are deleted from this computer.
(If you delete your spam daily in Entourage this will remove a lot of
messages from the server early)
Just out of curiosity, is there an easy way to find the size?

You'll have to contact your ISP. It should be listed on the web page that
give instructions for how to setup account.

Ihad this before, The only thing different is that I had 30 days and
you're suggesting 5. I just changed it to what you suggested. Let's see
if it works.

Sounds reasonable.
