(2004) turn off Entourage notify sound, Keep sound on for e-mail

I've looked in preferences for a way to keep the new mail sound on for
incoming e-mail while turning off any sounds when reading newsgroups.
As it is, whenever I click on one of the newsgroups and the new messages
show up, there's the new mail sound. I'd like to reserve the new mail alert
for mail actually sent to me personally, rather than for anything new that
arrives.

I've also looked in Help - they just point to the preferences dialog, where
you can only turn the sound on or off for both mail and news.

I'm not sure if this will work, but try creating a News rule that works on
all items and has the action "Do not notify"

I get the feeling , Dave, that you are an expert in rules - It seems as
though I'm going to get a lot of practice in it.
