2008 Mac office Entourage issue with Identity

M

Mike

All,

I have scoured the message boards looking for an answer to my Entourage
problem. My problem seems very similar to others that have dealt with the
identity issues with different versions of Entourage. However, when I reload
my version of Mac Office and reinstall all updates, the problem still
persists. Every time I try and open Entourage I still get the identity error
before the app closes automatically. I have tried to delete and re-install
the software and applicable updates several times. Please advise.

thanks,
Mike

"This Identity Cannot Be Opened With This Version of Entourage"
This message usually means, for example, that Entourage is at 11.0, but the
saved database was saved in a more updated version. Since there was a
database format change in there, Entourage 11.0 cannot open a database
saved in later version.

Download this script and run it. It's a script application. Double click to
run.

It should show you this if you are updated.

Your version numbers show that you are only at 12.0.1; you will need to
install SP1 first (12.1.0), which is required by the 12.1.1 update. By the
way, you can click on Help>Check for Updates in any Office application to
have Microsoft AutoUpdate download and install all the required updates.

Michel,

Thanks so much for pointing that out. I suppose I was not seeing the forest
for the trees. After updating with 12.1.0, 12.1.1 installed just fine.
Entourage is now up and running.

I am using Mac OS 10.5.4 and Office 2008. Entourage works perfectly on my iMac. When I create a new Contact, it registers just fine on my Contact list. However, I can no longer copy an up-to-date Main Identity from my primary iMac to my MacBook (running Mac OS 10.4.11).

When, on my primary iMac, I “Get Info” on my Main Identity, I am told it was last modified on June 26, 2008 (although there have been numerous additions to my Contact list since then). When I try to copy my Main Identity from my Office X Identities, the most recent version contains only the modifications done up to and on, June 26, 2008; nothing since then.

How can I copy an up-to-date Main Identity?

Thank you.

The database file is the only file. You need to copy the entire Identity
folder not just the database file.

It sounds like a modification problem. I seem to remember this coming up
recently. Ed, do you remember this?

Try testing Entourage in a new User. Go to System Preferences --> Create a
New User in Accounts. Switch to the New User by logging out/in or use Fast
User Switching. Test adding files there and see if the modification date
changes.

Diane – Thanks for you input. I too get the 'cannot be opened message from Entourage 2004. I tried downloading your URL but got: "Not Found

The requested URL /downloads/scripts/find_office/08/Version_app was not found on this server."

I'm trying to work my way through Apple, T-Mobile, & Blackberry all of whom have suggestions but none seem to work and Microsoft is closed for the weekend. And now there's my attempt with you failed but is/was the closest to the problem and solution. I'm 10.5.4 with Leopard. I'm sure I'm sure I'm overlooking something (I'm eons removed from computer savvy)
but at this point, I know not what. Thanks again, Carl

Mind the wrapping of the text. The URL is:

zip>

The "zip" portion on the *second* line is part of the whole line. Some
applications don't recognized the additional wrapped text when you
simply click on a very long link.

Hope this helps!

Thank you.

The Database file gets updated when you add an address, but since you did
not add or delete files to the Main Identity folder, the folder's
modification date does not change. Make sure you are not running Entourage
when you copy the Identity folder so that all updates have posted to the
database.

If you then copy the Main Identity folder from one computer to the other
(replacing files that have identical names), and both are running the
identical version of Entourage, the second computer should have exactly the
same information in Entourage as the first one.

Hello Diane & Ed,

Thank you for your responses.

I have copied the “Main Identity” file from my Intel iMac running OS 10.5.4 along with Adobe CS3. I am copying that file to the previous generation Power PC iBook G4 running OS 10.4.11 along with Adobe CS1. It appears (from what Ed wrote) that the two versions of Creative Suite might be incompatible. It’s my recollection that I could accomplish such a transfer successfully when my Intel Mac was running OS 10.4

I need to do this transfer because my Palm (m505) synchronization functions properly on the G4 (and worked fine on the Intel Mac when it was running 10.4), but doesn’t work on the Intel iMac running OS 10.5.4. So, if I “upgrade” my Power PC iBook G4 to 10.5, I suspect I’ll run into the same problem I encounter currently on the Intel Mac.

Kind of a “Catch 22”. Any suggestions?

Thank you,

Jeff

My experience is you cannot copy the Adobe applications. They like to be
installed. You'll end up with problems. One specifically that I remember is
there are no Help files if you drag over.
Kind of a ³Catch 22². Any suggestions?

Downgrade from Leopard back to Tiger.
