209 Controls in Toolbox to Insert?

So, I've been having success lately inserting Flash Movies into PPT
which has pros and cons, but does allow me to truly embed looping video
in a presentation. But anyway, when I go to insert an object via the
Toolbox Toolbar, I have a choice of 209 things (aside from my usual
"Shockwave Flash Object.")

Does anyone know what these other things are, what they do, how they
can expand PPT? I'm just thinking there have to be some other
cool/useful things there waiting to be exploited.

They are other activex controls that can be used to a lessor or greater
extent depending on the type. Some will work fine, some won't work at all.
Exploring can be fun...<g>

Any suggestions of where I can go for more info on them? I have no idea
what most of them are or what they do and don't even know where to
begin.

Have you heard people talk about "ActiveX Controls"? That's what these are.
Some come from MS with Windows, others come from Office, and yet others come
from third party applications or even the web. My development machine has
considerably more of them than you count on yours.

As I said, some will work in PPT, some won't, and some of them can NOT even
be inserted because they are "Run Time Only" controls. (Developers have to
pay for their use.)
