-23012 on check in Entourage but not Mail

I'm running Entourage v.X on a desktop G4 at home and on a PowerBook G4 that
I usually use at my office. I am running into an odd problem that I hope to
find help on here.

The POP account in question uses mail.domain.com for both POP and SMTP
servers; I've already found out that my cable ISP here at home doesn't allow
3rd party SMTP servers and have changed the settings to use their SMTP
server.

When I try to use Entourage to check that POP account, I get the message
that a connection failure has occurred, and an error of -23012. It looks
like I'm getting this on checking mail, not sending. The MS KB suggests that
this is an issue with bad communication between the client and server (and
appears to blame the server).

Checking the same POP account from another location, my office's DSL
connection, works just fine in Entourage v.X on my laptop. That ISP doesn't
seem to mind the third-party SMTP server, so I can use mail.domain.com for
both POP and SMTP.

The odd part is that while Entourage chokes on checking this POP account at
home, Apple's Mail program does just fine using the exact same settings. In
fact, the only way to check this POP account when I'm home is to use Mail.

Since Mail can send/receive just fine it sounds like there's a problem with
Entourage.

Any thoughts on what I can tweak or fix in Entourage so that I can use it to
check that POP account?

Thanks in advance...

It's possible that you have an extra space. This is easy to do if you did a
copy/paste.

You can try re-entering info.
You can delete account and create a new one.
Using copy/paste can result in an extra space being added. Type carefully.
Check your Keychain for corruption.

If this fails, then I suggest installing tcpflow and monitor the traffic to
see what is happening. Once you have installed tcpflow, you can activate it
from the Terminal. The following link will have the command you need to
paste into the Terminal and a link for downloading. Then when you connect
you can see in the Terminal window, the actual conversation between
Entourage and your ISP.

Let me know if I can be of further help.

I didn't see any spaces, but after re-entering all my information for that
account, it now seems to work.

I guess there must have been something I wasn't noticing that was wrong.

Thanks!
