Can you tell me what "by actually making Global Catalog servers
available for LDAP lookups" means?. Entourage still won't let me send
mail and this has been going on for a week. The problem doesn't seem
to be at the ISP since we can send mail through explorer.

Are you using an exchange account?

Try turning off checking names when sending (first option in the 'compose'
part of the entourage preferences).

The error as reported does not seem to involve sending. Generally, if you
can receive but not send then you have a bad SMTP configuration. Are you
using an SMTP other than your ISP?

Another place to check for problems sending is your outbox. Sometimes a bad
message will stop all mail from going out.

Another option to see what is going on is to use TCPflow. TCPflow enables
you to make a recording of all the traffic flowing into and out of your
computer.

Download the Mac OS X version here:

http://www2.entropy.ch/download/tcpflow-0.20.dmg.gz

When you install, you do not see it.

To run the test, quit all other apps that might be connecting to the
internet like your browser, ftp client.

Copy/paste in this command in the Terminal:

sudo /usr/local/bin/tcpflow -i en0 -c

Now try to send the email and watch the traffic in the window of the
Terminal. You should see what is failing.
